Where the Wild Things Are

A look inside our daily life.

Farmers Market Finds

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Our first Saturday without T-ball.  What to do??  I suggested we go to the big farmers market.  It was such fun!.  We picked out so many yummy treats!  The okra and green beans looked delicious!  I know, okra??  That's right.  We got okra, and I fried it!  Yep, only fried one other thing in my life, but I fried okra and it was DELICIOUS!!  The carrots we found were the BIGGEST carrots I have ever seen.  Will couldn't wait to get home and eat one.  We also bought fresh peanuts.  Which I roasted that afternoon.  And, I will tell you, fresh, roasted peanuts are fantastic!!!  Farm fresh eggs and avacados rounded out the morning.  What a treat to take the whole family to see real farmers and buy awesome fresh foods!  Can't wait to go back!

Fun Day at Discovery Place

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

On Monday Ben, Kate and I spent the morning at Discovery Place.  The museum has been undergoing renovations for the last 18 months so, usually, there has not been much to see.  However, this time, there were A LOT of new exhibits.  The kids area is now open and has a lot of neat things to do.  Ben built a car and had a race with another little boy, Kate played the pots and pans.  We went to see their first 3-D movie about sea turtles.  It was SO neat!!  Ben and Kate really liked it!  Upstairs, there are several new exhibits- one on germs that are on and in our bodies.  I felt like we needed to take an antibacterial bath when we got home!  There was another exhibit that had all kinds of hands on things.  We had fun making tin foil shapes, videos and dancing on a sound floor.  It was really cool!  As it got late, we called and had lunch and ice cream with daddy!  What a fun day!  Can't wait to go back!!

Last Baseball Game of the Season!

Sunday, May 16, 2010

So it was a bittersweet day.   The boys had their last t-ball game on Saturday.  The nice thing about spring sports in Charlotte is that by the time you are getting tired of driving to practice, going to games, convincing the boys they 'love' t-ball, and the temperature is getting so hot you can barely stand it, the season ends!  The boys were hitting pitches by the end of the season and making plays to get the other team out!  It was great to see how much better they got!  They got great trophies this season and had a party at the field after the game.  What a great season, we have a lot to look forward to next season!

Lookout Roller Derby, Here Comes Will!!

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Well, it was bound to happen.  We finally caved.  Will has been wanting roller skates for a really long time.  He got some money for his birthday and asked if he could get roller skates.  We did relent and headed to Target.  We decided to get roller blades and insisted that he get the proper pads to go with it.  Of course, I never had knee, wrist and elbow pads when I roller skated.  So, when we got him all set, we headed to the park.  He took to it like a duck to water.  It was such fun to watch him skate!!  He really did a great job!

Mother's Day at Wee School

On Tuesday, Ben's class had a special Mother's Day ice cream sundae party.  We had a nice time with the kids and had yummy ice cream.  After the sundaes, the children gave their mommy's hand towels with their handprints!  They had also filled out questions about their mommy's.  It was really sweet.  What a nice end to a wonderful Mother's Day weekend.

Mother's Day at MPTS

Friday afternoon, all the moms were invited to Will's class to enjoy a special Mother's Day celebration.  The class came in and read the moms the story 'The Mother's Day Mice'.  It was so sweet.  They all read and sang.  It was so sweet!  After the reading, the children gave their moms a special gift... a handmade bowl they made in Art class.  The one Will made was beautiful!!  I was so impressed!  After that, we all went out for treats on the lawn.  What a treat!

Mother's Day and a Birdsnest

What a wonderful Mother's Day weekend! It started out Sunday morning with a yummy breakfast and coffee from Panera delivered by daddy.  We got ready for church and when we got home, a yummy lunch I didn't have to cook!  As a special treat, I got a new camera!!  I have been having issues with our old one and have so been wanting a new one.  Ron wanted to make sure I could keep up with the blog.  The new camera 12 mp and TINY!!  I can fit it in my pocket!  YEAH!!  Now I can snap pictures wherever we go!!  We had a nice afternoon playing with the kids at the park and in the backyard.  The boys found a little birds nest.  It was very exciting!  We ended the day with a delicious dinner at Hawthorne's Pizza!  I felt totally spoiled!!!  What a sweet day to celebrate what makes me a mommy!!!
