Where the Wild Things Are

A look inside our daily life.

The Demolition is Complete!!!

Thursday, October 29, 2009

So, here are the pictures from day 3 of demo.  The guys did a ton of work.  All of the tile has been ripped up and the bathtub and toilet are pulled up.  Now to just get it all cleaned up!  I couldn't believe how much dust crept all over the house.  Had to clean everything.  Can see I will be cleaning ALOT over the next week!

Here is the bathroom completly ripped out!  To the studs!!  We are so excited.  Picked out the granite for the vanity today, bought the pocket door and ordered the bathtub!!  We are on our way.  The framing and plumbing go in on Monday and the electritian will be back on Tuesday.  He came today and added some outlets we needed in the basement and hung my chandelier in the dining room (YEAH!! Finally, we have light in there!!!!)  The builder said he will, probably, start tiling by the end of next week.  Can't wait to share the end product with you all!!!

Rainy Day Fun!

Not only have we been busy with work being done on the bathroom, but we have had some rainy days.  So, just how do you entertain little children, with Play-Doh!  It was Kates first time playing with it and, boy, did she have fun!  She has asked to play with it every day since.  If only I could make her understand that we do not mix the colors!!!

Prince Ben and Princess Kate

Ben wanted me to make him a crown this week so I made one for Kate, too.  They looked pretty cute!

DEMO DAYS!!

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Demo has begun!!  While I have been dreading this part, it has not been too bad, so far.  The first day, the vanity area was stripped.  What a transformation!  Then, day two and the shower in no more!  Can't wait to see what the rest of the week holds.

Rhino Research

Will had his first school project this month.  He was studying about animals in Literacy Class and had to choose an animal and write a 1 page paper on it as well as create its habitat.  Will LOVES the rhino.  I mean he REALLY LOVES rhinos!  So, to get started, I asked him how we should find out about rhinos.  I suggested we could go to the Library (you know, look in the World Book Encyclopedia) or we could check the internet.  He said "Let's check the computer- it has a brain, books don't"!  Too funny!  So, we pulled up NGC Kids and watched a video on rhinos and read all about them.  After, we sat down and I asked him a bunch of questions and he wrote the answers down.  After we were done, he said 'That's done!'  I then had to explain to him that this was a rough draft and he was going to have to write it again.  Then it was time to get to work on his rhino and habitat.  He set to work with modeling clay and pounded out a really good rhino - he was REALLY proud of this!  He did a great job of it.  I was really proud of him.  I took him to Michaels to pick out something to use for grass and the paint color he wanted to use on the rhino.  He did such a great job.  His habitat- done mostly himself- turned out great.   I had to help, a little, with cutting the grass and spreading the clay on the bottom.  He had to deliver his paper to his class.  That was very exciting to him!  What fun for a first project!

Kate's New Sleeping Habit

Since we moved Kate to her big girl bed we have been struggling with keeping her in her bed and room at night.  It did not start out so bad, just with all the travel this summer, she got used to someone being in the room while she fell asleep.  So now, we spend a fair part of the night putting her back on her bed.  I have found her in several interesting places when checking on her at night.  The other night I went up to check on her and she wasn't on her bed.  I looked in the closet, then behind her chair in the dormer window.  There she was, asleep on the floor with her bunny, binky and a book.  She fell asleep reading 'Goodnight, Gorilla'.  She was saying 'goodnight, elephant'!  It was too sweet!  Hopefully, she breaks this habit sooner rather than later!

Sweet Kate!

Isn't she sweet?!?!  Just had to take a picture of Kate with this little bow in her hair.  She looked too cute!  Of course, she is a pill these days!!  She is so independent and tells us 'Out!, MEEE! and a very sassy 'NO!'.  So, true to form, as much as we want them to talk, sometimes I wish they were mute!!

Will's New Bike

A couple of weeks ago, between soccer games, we suprised Will with a trip to Toys R Us to pick out his new bike!  His old one was getting too small for him so we had been having him earn his new bike with reading.  He was so excited- but for Will, that does not say much.  He doesn't get nearly as fired up as you would expect for a new bike!  So, he tried several out in the store and he and daddy finally settled on a dark orange Tony Hawk 18" bike.  There are few bikes out there with coaster brakes so we did not have much to choose from.  I tell you, the smile on that little face!!  He has been riding it as much as he can and is so very proud of his new bike!  Of course, with siblings, there is now a fight over who has the 'coolest' bike!  Guess that will never change!!

Soccer Games

We have had a busy Fall with two soccer games each Saturday.  And, of course, never at the same time!  The boys both love playing and are on great teams!  Here is a recap of their last games:
Ben scored 4 goals on Saturday!  He was one of the heavy hitters for Team England!  He is getting better and loves to play.
Will had a great game, too.  He had a couple of assists and seems to be getting the idea of it now.  Just a few games left!

Lake Park- Fun Day

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Will had last Monday off from school so I took the kids to Lake Park in Pineville. We had such fun. It is a great park with a big lake in the center and lots of fun jungle gym equiptment. With all the jungle gyms, you would have never guessed the most fun would come from some big tractor tires that were buried in the sand. The kids hid in them, climbed on them and jumped off the tires. It was such a beautiful day and we had a great time!

Reading Celebration Day

Ms. Sims-Moores Superstars!!
David

Will had another fun Reading Celebration Day at MPTS this year! I was lucky enough to be able to take part as a reader for the first grade. Will dressed up as David from 'David & Goliath' and I was given the book D.W. the Picky Eater. It was a fun day with lots of great stories and great costumes! Ron brought Ben and Kate up for the family picnic which was incredibly HOT and the kids really didn't eat! So, all in all, it was a fun day- Enjoy the pictures!

Whew! Were Did September Go??

Okay, I realize it has been more than a month since my last post. We are still alive and boy have we been busy! After a great start to school, we headed to TN for the first UT game. The boys had a great time and Kate had a fun girls day with Gran. We enjoyed a great visit with the TN family and took the kids to Lake Winnie for a day of fun and rides.

School is going great, and the boys just love their teachers and new friends. Soccer has started up and we have our Saturdays filled with games.
