Where the Wild Things Are

A look inside our daily life.

When I Grow Up...

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Will's most recent project at school was a short paper on what he wants to be when he grows up.  At first, he wanted to be an FBI agent.  Then, after a few days, he decided that he wanted to be a construction worker.  When I asked him what kind, he said 'one that does work, not like PaPa who just bosses everyone around!'  Out of the mouths of babes!!  Well, we talked all week about how you have to go to college and get a degree in building science (of course, Will just refers to this as a 'construction degree') and then get a contractors license.  Over the weekend, Will wanted to use some of his Christmas money to go buy a real kids sized tool kit- with a REAL hammer.  So, today was the big presentation.  Parents were invited and I was able to go.  Ron worked at home so he stayed with Ben and Kate.  It was such fun!  Will did great.  He read his paper all dressed as a construction worker.  When the other children were able to ask question, one little boy asked 'Is that a REAL hammer?'  Will just answered 'yeah.'  His teacher asked a couple of questions about the tools in his tool belt and he knew all the answers.  It was such fun to see him give this presentation.

Three Kids in the Tub

Since the bathroom is complete, we must christen it with a bubble bath!  Will, Ben and Kate couldn't wait for their first bubble bath!  So, last Friday night, we filled the tub up (I think we used all the hot water in the neighborhood!) and loaded it up with bubbles.  They had a GREAT time!  Nothing better than a bubble bath!  Only probem is now they want to take a bath everynight!

La La Rose

This is La La Rose.  The pink stuffed bunny and Kate's favorite book!  Graciously lent to her by Grandma after her last visit.  It is a must read atleast three times each day.  We LOVE La La Rose and her adventures through the Luxembourg Gardens.  We have read it so many times that Kate now knows several of the key sentences and repeats them while we read.  As La La Rose is a bunny, and we love bunnies, Kate and I decided that our own Bunny needed an outfit, too.  So, one afternoon, Kate and I went through the fabric scraps and found the perfect fabric for a skirt and neck tie.  We set out making the little skirt and then dressed our Bunny.  Kate was THRILLED.  Unfortunately, that was short lived and within 10 minutes, Bunny was no longer allowed to wear the skirt.  'Bunny, no skirt'.  So, we have since used the skirt on a variety of other babies.  But, we still read La La Rose everyday!!

Finally, Warm Weather!!

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Well, as I am sure you know, it has been a REALLY COLD January.  We have spent the last couple of weeks locked inside due to the bitter cold.  But, on MLK day, the weather was PERFECT!!  The kids were so excited to be outside playing.  Ben and Kate played with the wagon and the watering cans.  Will helped dig holes in the mulch.  We spent the entire day outside.  All three kids were so ready to go inside by late afternoon.  What fun we had!  With this little peek of spring, I am antsy for the next couple of months to go by so we can be back outside!!

12 Weeks Later, and Our Bathroom is COMPLETE!!

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

We have finally made it!!  The master bathroom is complete, save for the towel racks that need to be hung!!!  The builder was here today sealing the tile and taking care of all the final touches.  I was so excited knowing that I would no longer have someone in and out of my house.  It looks fantastic!!!  We are so excited- it could not have turned out better.  The pictures do not do justice, but give an idea of what it looks like now.  If you forgot what it used to look like, take a look back at the blog and you can see.  Can't wait for you all to see it is person!

More Christmas and a Happy New Year

Gran came for a visit the week before Christmas.  The kids were so excited to see her.  We had a little early Christmas with her- it really is nice to spread the gifts out!  Will got a new coat- you wouldn't think this would elicit the excitment it did- but, boy was he fired up!  Kate loved her new little dress up doggy and Ben was so excited about his new GI Joes and socks (really!)!  We had a nice visit, took Gran uptown to see the singing bears, lunch with daddy and rode the train.

Grandma and Papa came the Monday after Chrismas for a visit.  We had another wonderful visit and a little late Christmas.  Boy, were the kids excited!  New Lego's, army men, build up matchbox cars.  Kate was thrilled to get play cookies, a new little American Girl (the 6 inch Kit!), a jewlery box and my dollhouse wicker furniture and the last little tea cup and saucer from my dollhouse tea set.  I was so excited for Kate to have these to play with!  What a great suprise and gift!!

Grandma and Papa left on New Years Eve.  Kate woke up with a bad ear ache.  I had to take her to the doctors where we found out she had an active ear infection, signs of RSV and some sort of bronchio- illness.  To the pharmacy for an antibiotic!  So, we welcomed in the new year while we were all tucked into our beds!  I think Ron was the only one up to see the new year!  Ben came down with his first ear infection a few days later- hopefully, Will is in the clear!  All in all, we had a great Christmas season and hope our new year gets better!!
