Where the Wild Things Are

A look inside our daily life.

First Week of School

Monday, August 31, 2009

Will started first grade on August 25th. He was pretty excited! His teacher is Ms. Sims-Moore and she is very nice. His first day went really well. Ben, Kate and I took him to school and walked into his class. He found a seat and got down to work. There are a couple of his friends from Kindergarten in his class and a little boy from our neighborhood. It was a little more emotional, for me, than I had anticipated. I just can't believe he is in first grade! That afternoon, Ben, Kate and I waited for the school bus. It was a little late but you should have seen the look on all three faces when it drove up. Will got off the bus all smiles and Kate and Ben were so excited to see him! The rest of the week went well, too. Will keep you posted on his big year as a first grader!!

Kate Reading the Paper

Okay, so Kate will probably kill me when she gets older but I just had to take this picture of her sitting on the potty the other day. It was just priceless!!

Beach Trip

Monday, August 24, 2009

We had a great trip to the beach this summer! We spent the week at Ocean Isle Beach, NC. It was our first time to this beach and it was so much fun! Donna, Ron's Mom, came and spent the week with us. It worked great to have an extra pair of hands and eyes! We rented bikes and were a quick ride to the pool club that was oceanside. The boys did lots of digging in the sand and boogie boarding. They were really good at riding the waves by the end of the week. We arrived on Saturday afternoon, and spent the afternoon around the condo. Off the balcony, there was a little canal and there were ducks and turtles to watch. Sunday morning, we got up and headed out to the beach. I think we were there by 9am. It was just beautiful. We spent the morning on the beach and the afternoon at the pool. The boys are both little fish and Kate is getting better. Jumping off the side and paddling to the side. We did the same on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon, we rented a Scoot Coupe- a two seater scooter (see the picture below). We had such fun driving that around the island. The boys just loved it! Kate really wanted to go for a ride until she heard it. Then she wanted OUT! Thursday afternoon, Ron and I took Will and Ben out for an hour on the Intercoastal on wave runners. It was a BLAST! I took Ben and Ron took Will. We could have ridden all day! What fun! We ended up leaving on Friday afternoon- a day early. We woke to rain and decided we were ready to be home. What a great trip! Can't wait for the beach next year!!!

We found a little crab on the dock and Ben and Kate were thrilled!

Kate had a faceplant on the sand castle! I just had to get a picture!

Bye, Bye Cali...

Sunday, August 23, 2009

After a lot of thought, and damage, we had to find a new home for Cali. We have spent the last three years, fixing holes in the fence, searching for Cali and having people bring her home. The final straw was when she began climbing the fence. We couldn't leave her out by herself. She escaped every time. So, we decided that we would find a new home using the Golden Retreiver Rescue. They were wonderful. They found a foster home with a dog trainer that had a special heart for old dogs. It was a difficult morning when they came to get her. I know she has gone to a good home where she will be loved...
